Eligibility
Patients with alopecia totalis or universalis are entitled to reimbursement for wig purchase from the health basket. The reimbursement is for a natural hair wig. Per the health basket regulations, the reimbursement is up to NIS 5,569.05, once every two years. The reimbursement is done through HMOs and there is no need for supplementary or private insurance – everyone is entitled. The purchase must be made from a supplier or store in Israel only (no reimbursement for wigs purchased abroad).
Application Process
The reimbursement is thanks to the continuous efforts of the HeadsUp association to convince the Health Basket Committee to recognize a wig as a legitimate solution for alopecia areata. To receive the reimbursement, you must contact your HMO with an invoice/receipt for the medical wig purchase and a medical certificate from a dermatologist confirming the diagnosis of alopecia totalis or universalis.
